The Quality Improvement Canvas is a practical one-page tool for early career clinicians, experienced clinicians, and healthcare professionals who identify an opportunity for improvement and want to take action. It is built on a set of core principles: addressing problems that matter, aligning improvement work with priorities, reducing inequalities, and making care more sustainable.
By working through a series of structured questions and tools based on the Model for Improvement and the PDSA (Plan, Do, Study, Act) methodology, you will develop a one-page canvas that captures your thinking, guides your project, and evolves alongside your improvement work.
BEFORE WE BEGIN
The purpose of this canvas is to help structure your thinking, challenge assumptions, and create a practical starting point for improvement, all on a single page. You do not need to have everything figured out before you begin; in fact, the questions are often most valuable when you don't.
Work through the canvas on your own, with a colleague, or as a team to develop an initial action plan. It can also be used to facilitate group discussions, learning sessions, and brainstorming meetings. As your understanding of the problem deepens and your ideas evolve, return to the canvas to refine your thinking and shape your improvement plan.

Work through it independently, with colleagues, or as a team.
This canvas is designed to evolve, with a focus on supporting early career clinicians involved in quality improvement work, in a meaningful way. Your feedback on what worked well, what was missing, what would have been helpful, and what could be improved will help shape what comes next.
